However, it wasn’t until Liverpool University published a study on people’s connections with their fridge magnets that our insider knowledge has been publicly verified! 

It was found that fridge magnets generate and protect memories, triggering a variety of positive emotional responses and helping to forget negative ones. Displaying magnets on a fridge - which they so often are - keeps these memories top of mind as this is one of the most frequently visited areas in the home. 

When participants in the study looked at the magnets they had purchased on their travels, they could recall unique details of their trip and often became emotional when thinking about the memories behind them. The magnets served as reminders of spending time with loved ones, particular life stages, and even life lessons.
