Théophile Alexandre Steinlen 1859-1923.
Born in Lausanne, Switzerland, Steinlen trained as a designer of textiles. Moving to Paris, Steinlen became a celebrated commercial illustrator creating magazine covers and posters. Although a vivid recorder of the common plight, Steinlen is now most remembered for his images of cats.
